Tuesday With Morrie

I finally found someone who owned this book, a colleague of mine and she was so kind to borrow me. I’ve read the a book by Mitch Albom before ‘The Five People You Meet In Heaven~ and it was quite nice, something different.

But I personally think that Tuesdays With Morrie was much nicer, a very touching story of an old man; a professor who had ALS disease and his days were numbered. Yet, he spent a day every week, Tuesday, with a beloved ex-student of his; teaching him how to live his life.

Yeah, his last thesis of life with this professor who had so much to offer to the world, in a different way that would make the world a better place for everyone. Even though his body was withered and crumpled by the day, his spirit seemed to be stronger and inspiring~

It is a true story, so well written, so very meaningful.. A wake up call..

Another Bag?

Bags, bags, bags. One of the things that a woman can’t get enough of. There is always another reason to get another bag for another occasion, or when there is no occasion at all.

Or simply because there are new bags design or just because a friend has a new bag!

Currently, I am thinking whether I should get another hand bag for work. I already have two, one small bag but could fit in even a small umbrella. And another bigger bag that I could throw every thing inside.

The thing is both of them are white in color. I felt that I could do with another bag with different color to match different outfit. Good enough reason?

Visual

One thing that I am really lousy at are capturing visualization and observing & remembering them, especially in people and cars. And streets as well.

At first sight, everyone would look about the same to me especially if they have almost the same height and build. Same goes to cars. My friend would tell me about the many car make and model and sometimes it is hard for me to differentiate them!

But now I am starting to put on the effort of learning the different make and model and the part names like spoiler, rim, etc. I know they are basic, but I guess it is really lack of interest.

And I shall improve, with time! Or so I hope.

Is it safe to send car to car wash?

Sometimes I wish he will just wash his own car rather than sending to the car wash garage every week. Not only it is a little costly to have them wash by the so-called professional, I felt rather insecure to leave all our personal belongings in the car when they clean up the car. You give the key to them and basically the right to intrude in the car and look at the car compartment, boot and any place else.

I’ve heard many stories where stuffs were stolen, keys were duplicated and privacy was invaded. However his idea of washing his own car is spraying the water on the exterior and wiping it clean. And for the interior, he simply takes out the car mat and hit it on the pavement to let the dust off. And sometimes wiping the dashboard and that’s about all.

My Credit Card

I got my credit card rather late which is during my 3rd job, where the HSBC fellows came to our office so that we can open a bank account to credit our salary. They also promoted on their credit card which I applied for the first time.

Initially after getting my first credit card, I was wary of using it, as I have heard of people fallen into debt trap with credit cards. But after some times, I started to use it frequently until I accumulated a huge amount of debt! I started to freak out when I find that I couldn’t pay off my credit card debt on time and it is being brought forward to the next month.

It went on for about half a year where I started to stop using my credit card and trying to clear off all the debts. And finally, I managed to pay off after another half a year!

Now I am more careful when I am using my credit card and make sure that I pay all my credit card bill within time!

Wedding Bombs

Many people are getting married this month! I have a few friends hitched up as well. So invitations are flying everywhere and it’s like a bomb as you do not want one to land on you.

There is a courtesy of distributing wedding invitations too. It is good to distribute the invitation early as late delivery only means that the invitation is less sincere. It could mean that you are only replacement to those who couldn’t make it.

Just my two cents anyway.

Tuesday With Morrie

Another book by Mitch Albom, who also the author of the famous ‘Tuesday with Morrie’. I first came across this book when S bought it in MPH last year and he promised to borrow me after he finished. And it was soon all forgotten. A couple of weeks ago, we had an introduction section with our new product manager and he mentioned this book. I became curious about it and asked S and finally I got it~

It is rather a short book and very easy to read. It is about an old man who died in an accident at his workplace, a funfair and went to heaven. He was frustrated with his life as after the war, due to his family and circumstances and his bad leg, he didn’t do much in his life. He leads a very ordinary life as the maintenance man of the fun park and never got out of Ruby Pier to touch his dream. He repeated what his father did for a living, although he resented it.

In heaven, he met the 5 people who affected his life, which some he didn’t even aware. The message of the book was everyone’s life was interrelated whether or not they realized it. Everyone existence does matter and affect others. No one is an island and no one can be an island.

Below is an extracted paragraph from the book and it really got me :

Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves.

And yeah, it is a quite a good book and worth reading~

Hot Summer Days

Last week, I stepped into Kinokuniya after lunch with my colleague. I picked up a book titled Pleasant Things in Life (or something to that effect). There are many nice and short articles on the many little yet pleasant things we could do with our family or friends or during an outing or such. There was one article that caught my attention and worth trying.

It says when the writer was young, summer was very warm and it was difficult to sleep at night. Her parents let them put their sheet (I assumed was bedsheet) into the fridge during the evening. And when it came to bedtime, she would spread the chilled-sheet on her bed. And the bed would be cool and nice to sleep on! When the sheet on the part that she slept on was warm, she would turn to another side of the sheet. Genius, isn’t it?

And hey, it is really hot recently at night and I couldn’t help myself trying this trick. That very night, I folded my bedsheet into a very small size and put in a plastic bag and shoved it to a corner of my fridge (just in case my housemates saw it and freak out with what I did). And I took out by bedtime and it was cool for a little while. But soon, it became warm again. Maybe the bedsheet wasn’t cool enough to begin with.

Today, I am gonna put my bedsheet into the freezer compartment in the fridge! Let’s hope it stays cool for a longer period of time. ;)

Made Of Honor

I couldn’t wait to watch the movie Made of Honor due to Patrick Dempsey! I think he is simply so cute and he is one of my favorite in Grey Anatomy. McDreamy. *drool*

Being cheapskate, again I downloaded the movie instead of watching it at cinema. Well, economy is bad so need to save a little!

It was a good, hilarious movie! Though I find that Michelle Monaghan is not hot enough to be the star. Well, she is pretty but not good enough match for Patrick. Or so I felt. :P

Not as good as ‘My Best Friend’ wedding though which is my all time favorite!

Well, now let me continue with my McDreamy.. I mean Grey Anatomy.. :P

Garage

I noticed one of the biggest different between houses in US and here are the garages. Most of the house there has its own special garage for the car while here, only the big bungalow has garage.

And so I asked my colleague why do they need a garage in every house, why not do like what we do here? Park outside the house. He said it is for during the winter time where the car would be freezing cold in the morning although I didn’t really buy his reason.

Anyway, I like the idea of having a garage like that as there are many things that you could keep inside, apart from the car. Come to think of it, the car would be safer from burglary if it is kept inside the garage then outside the house, which happened so often.

Being a keeper, who keeps every junk that I think might be useful in the future, I hardly throw anything away. So it is good to have a garage where I can keep all junks inside without messing up the house.
